Bisai [city] - Bisai
An old city on the left bank of the Kiso River in the northwestern tip of Aichi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. Its center is the Okoshi district, which developed as a post town and ferry crossing on the Mino Kaido road. Since the Edo period, it has been known for its cotton textiles, followed by silk textiles, and from the Meiji period onwards, wool textiles. It is now one of the centers of the Bisai textile industry. There are many small and medium-sized factories, and the main production is clothing fabrics, but in recent years the plastic industry has also moved in. It is on the Meitetsu Bisai Line. It is connected to Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture, by the Nobi Ohashi Bridge. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Kisogawa Town, Haguri County, and Ichinomiya City. 22.01 km2 . Population: 58,388 (2003).
