Kanpuzan

Japanese: 寒風山 - かんぷうざん
Kanpuzan

A double volcano located in the eastern part of the Oga Peninsula in the mid-west of Akita Prefecture. It is 355 meters above sea level. Its shape is cone-troide shaped, and the entire mountain is covered in grass. It is included in Oga Quasi-National Park. The first volcanic activity formed a lava plateau that penetrated a 60-meter terrace, and the next activity formed the domes of Tonomine (where the observation deck is located) and Jakoshinagane. There is a record of a swarm of earthquakes with its epicenter in this area in 1810 (Bunka 7), which killed 61 people. On the northwest side of the summit can be seen the primary crater, about 600 meters in diameter, called Kyonomachi, and to the southwest a new crater called Furutama-no-ike remains in the shape of a bowl.
