[Changes in the mercantilist system in Britain]
The country that typified the various mercantilist policy systems and their transitions was England, where the original accumulation of capital was carried out in a typical way. The transitions can be broadly divided into the shift from the early mercantilism, or balance of bargain system, to the balance of trade system, and the transformation into a period of conflict between free trade and protectionism that accompanied the changes in the trade structure from the mid-17th century onwards. Furthermore, in terms of their correspondence with the political system, these processes can also be divided into absolutist mercantilism, royal mercantilism, and parliamentary mercantilism.
