Horaga Pass - Horaga Pass

A pass on the border between Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture and Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture. It is located on the alluvial plateau extending north from the Ikoma Mountains, and is 70 meters above sea level. It is a pass on the Higashi-Kouya Highway, and overlooks Mount Tennozan across the Yodo River. It has been a strategic location since ancient times, and during the Battle of Yamazaki in 1582 (Tensho 10), Tsutsui Junkei decided his course of action based on the outcome of the battle, which gave rise to the term "Horaga Pass," which refers to an opportunistic attitude.

京都府八幡市(やわた)と大阪府枚方市(ひらかたし)との境界にある峠。生駒(いこま)山地から北に延びる洪積層台地にあり、標高70メートル。東高野街道(ひがしこうやかいどう)の峠で、淀(よど)川を隔てて天王山が望まれる。古くから戦略上の要地で、1582年（天正10）山崎合戦の際、筒井順慶(つついじゅんけい)が戦況の趨勢(すうせい)をみて去就を決したことから、日和見(ひよりみ)的態度をいう「洞ヶ峠」のことばが生じた。
