Galactic nebula

Interstellar matter in the Milky Way, consisting of gas and dust, can appear to glow or to absorb light and appear dark due to various reasons. The term "intragalactic nebula" is not used much these days, and they are referred to by names given to classifications that reflect their respective properties (see the Nebula section). When referring to the whole group, they are sometimes called gas nebulae.

銀河系内にあるガスとダスト（塵(ちり)）からなる星間物質が、さまざまな原因で光って見えたり、逆に光を吸収して暗く見えたりするもの。最近は銀河系内星雲という呼び方はあまり用いられず、それぞれの性質を反映した分類ごとにつけられた名称でよばれる（星雲の項参照）。全体を総称する場合には、ガス星雲ということもある。
