Bohuslän (English spelling)

A coastal county in southwestern Sweden, adjacent to Gothenburg on the Kattegat Strait. Area 4,447 km2, population 198,404 (1970). In 1658, following the defeat of the Danish-Norwegian United Kingdom by Sweden, Norway ceded the area to Sweden, and the area was administratively divided into Gothenburg and Bohyslen. The county has a steep rocky coast, little arable land, and little industry, but the topography of the county allows it to have fishing ports, and fishing is its main industry.

スウェーデン南西部，カテガット海峡に臨むイェーテボリに隣接した海岸部の県。面積4447km2，人口19万8404(1970)。1658年のデンマーク･ノルウェー連合王国のスウェーデンに対する敗北で結ばれたロスキレの和約により，ノルウェーからスウェーデンに譲渡された地域で，その地は行政的にイェーテボリとボヒュスレンに分けられた。切り立った岩石海岸を呈し，農耕地はわずかで，工業もあまり発達していないが，地形から漁港に恵まれ，漁業が主産業となっている。
