Segonzac - André Dunoyer de Segonzac

Segonzac - André Dunoyer de Segonzac

French painter. His surname was Dunoyer de Segonzac. He was born in Bussy-Saint-Antoine, Seine-et-Oise. In 1901, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and studied under L. O. Merson, then at the Académie Julian and the Académie de la Palette, but from 1906 he started to work independently. From 1906 to 1908, he moved away from the rigid composition and dark colors of his early period and turned to Impressionism, but after coming into contact with Cubism, he simplified his subjects and created clearer structures. Influenced by Cezanne, he brightened his palette and began to use colors as a means of fleshing out his work. As a result of absorbing various trends in this way, he established his own style around 1920, leaving behind landscapes and still lifes in somewhat dark colors and heavy expressions. He also excelled in watercolor painting, and his series of works that vividly capture the impressions of nature are full of rich poetry. His representative works include Boaters on the River Le Morin (1924). He died in Paris.
