Hopper scale

A type of quantitative scale. It is widely used in industrial applications, such as bagging grains, fertilizer, feed, and coal in fixed quantities, and for mixing ready-mix concrete. A hopper is hung on one end of a lever, and a weight box of a fixed weight is hung on the other end. Items flow from the bunker (large box) above the hopper, and when the hopper reaches a certain amount, the lever becomes balanced and horizontal. At this point, an electrical or mechanical signal is sent, the bunker outlet closes, the hopper bottom opens, and the items flow into the container below. When the hopper is empty, the lever stops with the weight side lowered and tilted, and a signal is sent to close the bottom of the hopper and open the bunker outlet, repeating the same operation as before. It can automatically measure a fixed amount, but the accuracy varies depending on the type of product. For small, free-flowing grains such as wheat, the accuracy is good (error is about 1/500), but for uneven grains, fine powders, and adhesive grains, the accuracy is poor.

定量秤の一種。穀類，肥料，飼料，石炭などの定量袋詰や，生コンクリート調合など，工業用に広く使われる。てこの一端にホッパーをつるし，他端に一定重量の分銅箱をつるしてある。ホッパーの上方のバンカー (大箱) から品物を流入して，ホッパー内が一定量に達すると，てこが釣合って水平となる。このとき電気的または機械的な方法による信号を発して，バンカーの出口が閉じ，ホッパー底の口が開いて，下の容器内に品物が流れ込む。ホッパーが空になると，てこは分銅側が下がって傾いたまま停止し，信号により，ホッパーの底口が閉じ，バンカー出口が開くという仕掛けになって，前と同じ動作が繰返される。自動的に一定量をはかり取ることができるが，精度は品物の種類によっても異なり，小麦のように小粒で，さらさらしたものは精度がよく (誤差は1/500程度) ，ふぞろいのもの，微粉体，付着性のものは精度が落ちる。
