...a powerful branch of the Pashtun tribes of Afghanistan. The Khalaj, a part of the Turkic Karluk tribe of Central Asia, moved south and were nomadic in various parts of present-day Afghanistan by the mid-10th century. The Ghilzai are their descendants.
