Among the Central Asian Saka languages related to the language of the Saka people who flourished in northwestern India and Afghanistan from before Christ, this refers to the language of documents excavated in Khotan. This language belongs to the Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family (Medieval Iranian language) and is also called Khotanese or Uten (the Chinese name for Khotan). Khotanese Saka documents are thought to have been written around the mid-10th century. Many of the documents are Buddhist scriptures, but all that is known belong to the Mahayana. Of these, a collection of Buddhist poems called the Book of Zambasta has preserved the ancient linguistic form and is said to be the most important Buddhist scripture.

紀元前より西北インド，アフガニスタンで栄えたサカ族の言語と関係づけられる中央アジア･サカ語のうち，ホータン出土文献の言語をいう。この言語はインド･ヨーロッパ語族のイラン語派(中世イラン語)に属し，ホータン語あるいは于闐（うてん）(ホータンの漢名)語ともいう。ホータン･サカ語文献はだいたい10世紀中葉までに書かれたと考えられている。文献の多くは仏典類であるが，知られるものはすべて大乗に属する。これらのうち《ザンバスタZambastaの書》と呼ばれる仏教詩偈集は古い言語形式を保存しており，最も重要な仏典といわれている。
