A former town in Inasa County in the southwest of Shizuoka Prefecture. It faces the Inasa Hosoe Bay in the northeast of Lake Hamana. Kiga, where there was a checkpoint on the Tokaido side road, is the center of the town, and the Tenryu Hamanako Railway runs through it. It produces rice, mandarin oranges, and navel oranges. It is part of the tourist area along the shores of Lake Hamana. In July 2005, it was incorporated into Hamamatsu City along with Tenryu City, Hamakita City, Haruno Town in Shuchi County, Sakuma Town in Iwata County, Misakubo Town, Tatsuyama Village, Maisaka Town in Hamana County, Yutome Town, Inasa Town in Inasa County, and Mikkabi Town. 34.18 km2 .
