It means Occitan. It is one of the Romance languages spoken in southern France, and is also called Provençal. In medieval France, Oi (northern France) and Occitan (southern France), both derived from Latin, were spoken, but Occitan quickly established itself as a literary language due to the 12th and 13th centuries when it produced many troubadours. Later, as France was unified and modernized under the leadership of the north, Oi (northern France) developed into French, while Occitan fell into the status of a dialect and slang.
