〘Noun〙 A general term for songs that have been included in textbooks for music education in elementary schools, junior high schools, and former normal schools since the Meiji era in Japan. ※Western Music Handbook (1910) by Maeda Kyuhachi: Songs "Other folk songs and school songs (gakukaushauka) are not worthy of being called vocal music and distinguished from instrumental music."
