Japanese: アカギツネ - あかぎつね（英語表記）red fox

An animal of the order Carnivora, family Canidae, class Mammalia. Body length is 60-90 cm. It is found in Eurasia and North America and is also called simply fox. This term also refers to one color phase (hair color type) of fox, which is orange-brown all over, and distinguishes it from the bengal fox, which has a black band on its body, and the Japanese black fox, which is all black.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱食肉目イヌ科の動物。体長60～90センチメートル。ユーラシアと北アメリカに分布し、単にキツネともよばれる。また、この語はキツネの一色相（毛色の型）をもさし、全身橙褐色(とうかっしょく)のものをいい、胴に黒帯のあるジュウジギツネや全身黒色のクロギツネと区別している。
