Also called a catcher boat. A fast boat used for catching whales. There are relatively small ones that catch whales along the coast, and ones that go out to sea in a fleet with a whaling mother ship. The latter are generally diesel-powered vessels with a length of 40 to 65 meters and a total weight of 500 to 700 tons, equipped with a whaling gun on the bow, a tall lookout mast, and a rope puller on the bow, and have a hull that can withstand rough ocean waves and agile maneuverability. Until the beginning of the 20th century, when mother ship whaling began, these vessels were equipped with whale oil extraction equipment and storage tanks.
