Manas - Manas

A county on the southern edge of the Junggar Basin in the northern part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. It belongs to the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture. The permanent population is 237,558 (2010). It is an oasis region at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, with the Manas River flowing north through the county. Livestock farming and wheat and cotton cultivation are thriving, making it the main cotton-producing region in the northwest inland region. In the 1950s, the People's Liberation Army of China and others began reclamation of the sandy land, and an irrigation network was developed. Spinning factories, coal chemical factories, and thermal power plants are located here. The Lanxin Line runs through the county.

中国、新疆(しんきょう)ウイグル自治区北部、ジュンガル盆地の南縁にある県。昌吉(しょうきつ)回族自治州に属する。常住人口23万7558（2010）。天山(てんざん)山脈北麓のオアシス地帯でマナス河が県内を北流する。牧畜をはじめ小麦やワタの栽培が盛んで、北西内陸綿作地帯の主産地をなす。1950年代、中国人民解放軍などにより砂地の開墾が進み、灌漑(かんがい)網が発達した。紡績、石炭化学などの工場や火力発電所が立地する。県内を蘭新(らんしん)線が通る。
