A North Korean poet. Born in Gyeonggi Province. In 1917, he entered Paijai High School and published the coterie magazine Shinsekai. He participated in the March 1st Independence Movement with fellow student Song Young. He was based in Shanghai, China for a time, but was associated with the domestic literary group Engunsha. After joining the Korean Proletarian Arts League (KCUP) in 1925, he dropped out of Yeonhui College in Seoul and mainly edited the children's magazine Hoshi no Kuni (Star Country) (1925-1935). After publishing Rock Swallow in 1937, which likened the pioneers of the spring of national liberation to rock swallows, he fell silent. After liberation, he published the poetry collection Flowing Fire (1946) in Seoul, and moved to North Korea in 1946. He wrote the lyrics for the national anthem of the Republic, Aegukga (Patriotic Song). His poetry collections include "Truth" (1947) and "Selected Poems of Park Se-young" (1956), as well as the epic poem "History of the Jungle" (1962).
