〘 noun 〙① A place in a temple where hidden Buddha statues and treasures can be viewed during the temple's open viewing. It was a bustling place with many people. A place for viewing . ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Keisei-iro-shamisen (1701) Edo "If you look now, you can see them going out to the various kaichauba (open viewing places) , wearing old straw hats."② (From the fact that, when temples are open to the public, boards are laid on the stairs and crosspieces are hammered in to prevent visitors from slipping.) A method of construction used in Kabuki stage props to create a slope such as a hill on the stage. A slope created for the ascending and descending of the regular and high-footed performers from the flat stage to the double stage . ※Kabuki Koibou Sumo Harukaosatsu (1872) prologue: "The main stage is three-ken long, with a double-layered stage in the middle, a bank with folded palm trees, and the entrance to the exhibition hall on the left side of the stage." ③ A carefully orchestrated exhibition scene from a kabuki play performed in the Genroku period ( 1688-1704 ) during the Edo period. Here, the divine power of the gods and Buddha is shown, and the entire troupe takes part in a grand dance.

〘名〙① 寺院で、開帳するとき、秘仏、秘宝などを拝観させる場所。人出が多く賑わう場所だった。開帳所(どころ)。※浮世草子・傾城色三味線(1701)江戸「今見れば所々の開帳場(カイチャウバ)へ出て、古編笠着て」② (寺院の開帳の際、参詣人のために、階段の上に板を敷き、横木を打って滑らないようにしたことから) 歌舞伎の大道具で、舞台に坂道などの斜面を作るときに用いる組み立て方。平舞台から常足(つねあし)、高足(たかあし)の二重への昇降のために設けた坂道。※歌舞伎・恋慕相撲春顔触(1872)序幕「本舞台三間の間中足の二重、棕梠伏せの土手、下手に開帳場の上り口」③ 江戸時代、元祿期(一六八八‐一七〇四)の歌舞伎で上演された開帳物の、大切に仕組まれた開帳の場面。ここで神仏の霊験が示され、一座総出の大踊りになる形式がとられた。
