Odate region - Odate area

...The style of houses, language, customs, etc. still strongly resemble those of the old Morioka domain. Major mines were opened on the periphery of the basin, and typical mining settlements developed along with the Odate area, but by 1994, all of them had been suspended or closed. The economy is based on agriculture (rice farming, field crops, and livestock farming), and forestry, but overcoming the frequent cold damage is a challenge.
