A type of zeolite. It usually has a crystal shape of a rhombohedron or a combination of rhombohedrons and hexahedrons, but can also be in the form of a block. It cannot be distinguished from Wairakei zeolite with the naked eye, but when it coexists with quartz, it is usually Wairakei zeolite. It occurs in the gaps of basic volcanic rocks and tuffs together with sodalite, thomsonite, and apophyllite. It also forms veins in basic igneous rocks associated with ultrabasic rocks, coexisting with prehnite, sodalite, and thomsonite. It also occurs in veins that form zeolite rocks or cut through them. It also replaces fossils, forms veins in skarn, and occurs as megacrysts in nepheline syenite pegmatites. Its English name comes from the Greek word for weak, because its electrical properties are weak when heated or rubbed.
