SST - SST

Japanese: SST -
SST - SST
A transport aircraft that travels at supersonic speed (usually 2 to 3 times the speed of sound). Abbreviation for super-sonic transport. If it travels at more than twice the speed of sound, it can achieve the same fuel efficiency as a general jet transport aircraft that cruises at about 0.8 times the speed of sound. Since the mid-1950s, research on supersonic transport has been active in various countries, and the Concorde jointly developed by the UK and France began commercial operation in 1976, and the former Soviet Union's Tupolev Tu-144 began commercial operation in 1977. However, Concorde caused noise pollution in residential areas, as well as low operating efficiency and rising fuel costs, which led to huge losses for both British and French airlines, and production was discontinued in 1979 after 16 mass-produced aircraft, and operation was suspended in 2003. Both production and operation of the Tu-144 were discontinued. Later, in June 2005, the Japanese and French aerospace industry societies agreed to jointly research the next generation of SST.

super-sonic transport(超音速輸送機)の略。
