Shakotsuko (English spelling) bournonite

A type of sulfosalt mineral. It occurs in medium to low-temperature hydrothermal deposits and contact metasomatic deposits (skarn-type deposits), and is a product of relatively late formation. It is euhedral and often forms twin crystals with a cross-shaped cross section. It is also known for the wide variety of coexisting minerals, including sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, pyrite, tetrahedrite, and arsenopyrite. In Japan, the Chichibu mine in Saitama Prefecture and the Kuratani mine in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture are famous. The name of the mineral comes directly from the German word Rädelerz, which was derived from the fact that the cross section of the twinned crystals resembles the spokes of a wheel.

硫塩鉱物の一種。中ないし低温熱水鉱床、接触交代鉱床（スカルン型鉱床）中に産し、比較的晩期生成の産物。自形は斜方短柱状、しばしば断面が十文字形の双晶を形成する。共存鉱物が変化に富むことでも知られる。閃(せん)亜鉛鉱、方鉛鉱、黄銅鉱、黄鉄鉱、安四面銅鉱、硫砒鉄鉱など。日本においては、埼玉県秩父(ちちぶ)鉱山、石川県金沢市倉谷鉱山のものが有名である。双晶した個体の断面が車輪のスポーク（車骨）に似ているということで命名されたドイツ語のRädelerzの訳がそのまま鉱物名となった。
