Count of Barcelona. Reigned 1131-62. In 1137, he married Princess Petronilla of neighboring Aragon, uniting his own country and his own Catalonia in a federation, thus inaugurating the so-called Kingdom of Aragon. In 1144, he also gained control of the Principality of Provence, further strengthening the ties with Catalonia that had existed since his predecessor. At the same time, he took advantage of the military power strengthened by the alliance with Aragon to conquer the two Islamic countries of Tortosa and Lleida, and by 1153, he had secured the mouth of the Ebro River, completing the Catalan Reconquista.

バルセロナ伯。在位1131‐62年。1137年，隣国アラゴンのペトロニーラ王女との結婚によって同国と自国カタルニャを連邦の形で結びつけ，いわゆるアラゴン連合王国を発足させた。さらに44年以降はプロバンス侯国の支配権も握って先代以来のカタルニャとのきずなを一段と固めた。他方，アラゴンとの連合で強化された軍事力を生かしてトルトサとレリダの2イスラム教国を征服，53年までにはエブロ川河口を確保する形でカタルニャの国土回復戦争(レコンキスタ)を完了した。
