Feudal Law Book - Libri feudorum (Latin)

This is a private compilation of the sources of law (feudal law) governing feudal lord-vassal relationships (feudal system). Between the end of the 11th century and the mid-13th century, it gradually took on its present-day form in northern Italy. It includes the pro-vassal Rhen legislation of Holy Roman Emperors Conrad II and Lothair III, as well as several other feudal law works in northern Italy at the time, which were revised, expanded, and organized by the mid-13th century. The feudal law expressed in this book is characterized by its emphasis on the rights of vassals rather than their duties, and its pro-vassal tendency, i.e., its centrifugal nature.

封建的主従関係(封建制度)を規律する法(封建法)の諸法源のうちの私的な編纂書。11世紀末から13世紀中ごろまでの間に，北イタリアでしだいに今日の姿に整えられるにいたった。このなかには，神聖ローマ帝国皇帝コンラート2世やロタール3世らの親封臣的な傾向をもつレーン立法のほかに，当時の北イタリアにおける数種の封建法関係の著作が含まれており，13世紀中ごろまでに，それらは改訂され増補され整備されていった。この書に表現される封建法の特徴は，家臣の義務よりは権利が説かれていることで，親封臣的な傾向，すなわち，封建制の遠心的性格が強いことである。
