A mountain range in the northeastern part of the Appalachian Mountains in the United States. The area is made up of gentle, low mountains and hills with elevations ranging from 600 to 1200 meters. The eastern side slopes relatively steeply into the Hudson River valley, where the main and tributaries of the Susquehanna and Delaware rivers carve deep gorges. The highest point is Slide Mountain (1281 meters). Blessed with beautiful mixed forests and valleys, parts of the area are New York State Parks. There are numerous artificial lakes, such as Downsville, which are important sources of water for the New York metropolitan area.
