…He was one of the founders of the Institutional School along with T. Veblen. Born in Ohio, he went from Oberlin College to graduate school at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied social reformist economic thought under the guidance of Richard T. Ely (1854-1943, American economist, pioneer of the Institutional School), an economist of the historical school. From 1892 onwards, he taught economics at several universities, including Wesleyan University, but was expelled from the university in 1898 due to his skeptical and progressive tendencies. …
