Akinada Sea

Part of the Seto Inland Sea, this area is sandwiched between the southwestern part of Hiroshima Prefecture and the northwestern part of Ehime Prefecture. It is bounded by the Kurushima Strait to the east, Osakishimo Island, Kamikamagari Island, Shimokamagari Island, and Kurahashi Island to the north, Iyonakajima Island to the west, and the Takanawa Peninsula in Ehime Prefecture to the south. The eastern part of the Akinada Sea is also called Itsukinada. This area is a busy sea area, as the main sea route connecting the east and west of the Seto Inland Sea passes through it, and the Geiyo Sea Route connecting Hiroshima, Kure, and Matsuyama also runs through it. As the area is not very large, the sea is rarely rough in winter.

瀬戸内海の一部で、広島県南西部と愛媛県北西部に挟まれた海域。東は来島(くるしま)海峡、北は大崎下(おおさきしも)島、上蒲刈(かまがり)島、下蒲刈島、倉橋島、西は伊予中島、南は愛媛県高縄半島に囲まれている。安芸灘の東部は斎灘(いつきなだ)ともいう。この海域は瀬戸内海を東西に結ぶ主航路が通り、また広島、呉(くれ)と松山を結ぶ芸予(げいよ)航路も走っているので、船の交通が多い海域である。海域がそれほど広くないので、冬季海が荒れることは少ない。
