Hiyoshi Festival - Hiematsuri

Japanese: 日吉祭 - ひえまつり
Hiyoshi Festival - Hiematsuri
This festival is held mainly on April 14th at Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine, located in Sakamoto, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. It was also called the Sanno Festival. Originally, the main festival was held on the monkey day in April, so it was also called the Monkey Festival. The origin of this festival is as follows: "According to the shrine's legend, in the second year of the Hakuho era under Emperor Tenmu, there was a divine visit to Yayanagiura in Omiya, and Tsuneyo Tenharumitsu of Tanaka brought an offering of millet on a strawberry leaf from a boat, and there was a divine decree that a divine visit should be held in this bay every year. (Omitted) There are many examples of this great festival, and it is said that the surrounding areas and the seven bays of Omi all took part in this ritual" ("Shokoku Zue Nenjyu Gyoji Taisei").
