An Old World monkey (illustration) of the Cercopithecidae family of primates. It is found in areas from the Indochina Peninsula to Indonesia and the Philippines, and mainly lives in lowland forests along the coast and riverbanks. There are considerable regional differences and it is divided into many subspecies. It was named after its crab-eating habit, but in the wild it mainly eats fruits and insects, and does not have a preference for crabs alone. It has a head and body length of 50 to 60 cm, a tail length of 40 to 50 cm, and weighs 4 to 6 kg. Its coat color varies widely, from gray-brown to reddish brown.
