A Confucian scholar of the late Edo period. Born in Osaka. His given name was Hitoshi, his pen name was Shohitsu, and he was commonly known as Chozaemon. In addition to Kotake, he also had the pen names Ido and Nanpo. He studied classical Japanese literati under Shinozaki Santo (1737-1813) and was adopted by him. He later learned Neo-Confucianism from Bitou Jishu and Koga Seiri. Not wanting to serve in the government, he took over a private school in Osaka and formed friendships with many writers, including Rai Sanyo and Tanomura Chikuden. He studied calligraphy in the Yuan and Ming dynasties of China, and eventually traced it back to the calligraphy of the Tang dynasty, creating his own unique world. He also showed great talent in poetry and prose. [Shoichi Kuboki May 19, 2016] [References] | | | |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
