This is a record of the origins and history of Mount Omine, Mount Kumano, Mount Kinpu, Mount Katsuragi, and Mount Kasagi in the Kinki region, which are the fundamental sacred sites of Shugendo. The book (a copy of the Gyoren book) owned by Yoshimasa Kujo (1189-1268), son of Yoshitsune Kujo, was passed down to the Kujo family and is currently housed in the Archives and Mausolea Department of the Imperial Household Agency. The book covers many topics, including the important matters concerning the birthplace of Buddha at Mount Daibodai (Mount Omine) and the procedures for making a pilgrimage to Kumano and returning home. The entries for each topic were written at different times, and it is believed that they were compiled into the "Origins of Various Mountains" in the early Kamakura period. Some of these articles appear in the "Kinpusan Sosoki," "Kinpusan Miscellaneous Notes," and "Shobodaisan To Engi," and similar entries can also be found in these books.
