Hemigalus (English spelling)
A general term for a mammal of the Hemigalinae subfamily of the Viverridae family, which resembles a palm civet but has thick horizontal stripes on its back. The tiger civet Hemigalus derbyanus (body length 41-51 cm, tail length 25-39 cm) is found in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, etc., the banded palm civet H. hosei (body length about 60 cm, tail length about 30 cm) is found on Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, and the banded palm civet Chrotogale owstoni (body length 50-64 cm, tail length 38-49 cm) is found in Laos and northern Vietnam.
