Bian Wen-jin (English spelling)

Japanese: 辺文進 - へんぶんしん（英語表記）Bian Wen-jin

A Chinese bird-and-flower painter from the early Ming Dynasty to the first half of the 15th century. Originally from Shaxian (Fujian Province), Longxi (Gansu Province), his courtesy name was Jingzhao (one theory goes that his given name was Jingzhao, and his courtesy name was Wenjin). He entered the Painting Academy during the Yongle period (1403-1424), and his paintings of Lingmao (Ling-mao) are known as the "Three Great Works of the Imperial Court" along with Jiang Zicheng's figure painting and Zhao Lian's painting of a tiger. In the first year of the Xuande era (1426), at the age of over 70, he was still in attendance at Wuying Hall. While inheriting the tradition of Southern Song court-style bird-and-flower painting, he established a flat, decorative style and gave birth to many successors. His works include "Three Friends and a Hundred Birds" (1403, National Palace Museum, Taipei) and "Spring Birds and Flowering Trees" (Shanghai Museum). His sons Chu Xiang and Chu Shan were also excellent bird-and-flower painters.

中国，明前期，15世紀前半の花鳥画家。原籍は隴西 (甘粛省) ，沙県 (福建省) の人。字は景昭 (一説に諱は景昭，字は文進) 。永楽期 (1403～24) 画院に入り，その翎毛画 (れいもうが) は蒋子成の人物画，趙廉の画虎と合せて「禁中三絶」と称され，宣徳1 (26) 年には七十余歳でなお武英殿待詔であった。南宋院体花鳥画の伝統を継承しながらも，平面的，装飾的な様式を樹立し，多くの後継者を生んだ。作品に『三友百禽図』 (1403，台北，故宮博物館院) ，『春禽花木図』 (上海博物館) などがある。子の楚祥，楚善も花鳥画にすぐれた。
