A military commander and administrator in the early Yuan Dynasty in China. His real name was Shams al-Din (贍思丹), and he was also known as Umar (雲馬児), but he was called Sayyid, a title indicating a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. Originally from Bukhara in Central Asia, he submitted to Genghis Khan when he invaded the west, and thereafter served five generations of Genghis Khan up to Kublai Khan. In 1273 (the 10th year of the Yuan Dynasty), he became the governor of Yunnan Province, where he worked to develop the management of Yunnan, which did not belong to China before the Yuan Dynasty, and paved the way for the establishment of the Hui people in Yunnan.
