During the Hundred Years' War, it was occupied by the English army (1347), but the story of how six citizens appeared before King Edward III of England and saved the other citizens is famous, and is also depicted in Rodin's sculpture (The Burghers of Calais). In 1558, the Duke of Guise recaptured it, and it became a Spanish territory for a time at the end of the 16th century, but after 1598 it became a French territory. ...
