The National Theatre (theater company) of the German Democratic Republic in Berlin. In January 1949, after returning from exile, B. Brecht staged "Mother Grateful and Her Children" starring his wife H. Weigel at the Deutsches Theater. Building on the success of this performance, the company formed a new theater company, renting the Deutsches Theater in November of the same year and beginning its activities with "Häuser Puntila and the Servant Matti". With director Engel, set designer Neher, and actors such as Busch, Bild, Geschonegg, Weigel, and Giese, the company soon attracted international attention with a repertoire centered on Brecht's works and classic and modern classic interpretations in the Brechtian style.

ベルリンにあるドイツ民主共和国の国立劇場(劇団)。1949年1月，亡命から帰国したB.ブレヒトは，ドイツ座で妻H.ワイゲル主演の《肝っ玉おっ母とその子供たち》を上演し，その成功をふまえてこの新劇団を結成，同じ年の11月にドイツ座を借りて，《プンティラ旦那と下男のマッティ》から活動は始められた。演出家エンゲル，装置家ネーアー，俳優にブッシュ，ビルト，ゲショネック，ワイゲル，ギーゼなどを擁し，ブレヒトの作品とブレヒト流に解釈された古典，近代古典を中心にした演目によって，やがて国際的な注目を浴びるようになった。
