Kano Jihei

...Iwasaki Yanosuke (1851-1909) and Koyata (1879-1945), the second and third heads of Mitsubishi, collected mainly ancient Oriental ceramics and paintings, and built a high-quality collection including the national treasure "Yohen Tenmoku tea bowl" and "Tale of Genji Screen" (by Sotatsu), which are now housed at the Seikado Bunko in Setagaya, Tokyo. Other Kansai businessmen include Fujita Denzaburo (1841-1912) of Osaka, who collected mainly ancient calligraphy, paintings, and tea ceremony utensils such as "Murasaki Shikibu Diary Illustrated Scroll" and "Yohen Tenmoku tea bowl" (now the Fujita Museum of Art), and Hyogo sake brewer Kano Jihei (1862-1951), who collected mainly Chinese antique copperware and ancient ceramics (now the Hakutsuru Museum of Art). In addition, the Sumitomo Museum houses the carefully selected and collected Chinese bronze artefacts, and when the holdings of Nezu, Hakutsuru and Sumitomo are combined, it forms the world's most exquisite collection of Chinese bronze artefacts in terms of both quantity and quality.

…岩崎弥之助(1851‐1909)，小弥太(1879‐1945)は三菱の2代，3代総帥であったが，東洋古陶磁，古画を中心に集め，国宝〈曜変天目茶碗〉や《源氏物語図屛風》(宗達筆)に代表される質の高いコレクションを築き，今日では東京世田谷の静嘉堂文庫に所蔵されている。このほか関西の実業家でも，大阪の藤田伝三郎(1841‐1912)，平太郎による《紫式部日記絵巻》や〈曜変天目茶碗〉など古書画，茶道具を中心とする収集(現，藤田美術館)，兵庫の酒造家，嘉納治兵衛(1862‐1951)による中国古銅器，古陶磁を主体とする収集(現，白鶴美術館)などが知られる。また，住友家が精選して収集した中国古銅器が住友博古館に蔵され，根津，白鶴，住友の所蔵品を併せると，量質ともに世界でも最も高度な中国古銅器のコレクションとなる。…
