An extant Chaetognath (illustration) of the family Psauropodidae in the class Arthropoda. It lives in plankton in the surface layer of warm oceans and is an indicator species of the Kuroshio Current. There is one genus and one species. It is approximately 10 mm long and 2 mm wide, with a hard, opaque body with well-developed muscles. There are 7 to 11 pairs of mandibular setae, which may have serrated edges on the inside. The foam tissue is very thick and extends from the neck to the spermatheca, making the neck unclear. Tentacle bundles can also be seen in the foam tissue on the outside of the abdominal ganglion. The ciliated ring, known as the touch organ, is oval and starts from the neck, and is almost the same length as the head.

現生矢虫綱ヘラガタヤムシ科の毛顎動物（イラスト）。暖海域の表層でプランクトン生活をし，黒潮水塊の指標種になっている。1属1種。体長はほぼ10mm，体幅2mm，体は筋肉が発達していて硬く，不透明である。顎毛は7～11対で，顎毛の内側に鋸歯をもつことがある。泡状組織が非常に厚く，頸部（けいぶ）より貯精囊まで達しているため頸部ははっきりしない。また腹神経節の外側の泡状組織には触手束がみられる。感触器官といわれる繊毛環は長円形で頸部から始まり，頭部とほぼ同長である。
