Dioxane

Japanese: ジオキサン
Dioxane

Dioxacyclohexane. C 4 H 8 O 2 (88.10). A six-membered cyclic ether consisting of two oxygen atoms. When simply referred to as dioxane, it refers to 1,4-dioxane. [ I ] 1,4-dioxane: It is synthesized by distilling ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol in the presence of a catalyst such as concentrated sulfuric acid, or by heating ethylene oxide with sodium hydroxide. It is a colorless liquid with a faint odor. Its melting point is 11.8°C, boiling point is 101°C. It is 1.0356. 1.422. It is flammable, with a flash point of 8°C. It is miscible with water and many organic solvents. It forms an azeotropic mixture (boiling point 88°C) containing 20% water. In an anhydrous state, it can form explosive peroxides. It forms crystalline adducts with metal chlorides, sulfuric acid, etc. It is widely used as a solvent for polymeric compounds and inorganic substances. It is also used to extract and separate lithium salts. [CAS 123-91-1] [ II ] 1,3-Dioxane: Made from trimethylene glycol and poly(oxymethylene). Colorless liquid. Boiling point 105 °C. 1.034. [CAS 505-22-6]
