A former town in Hiraka County in the central-southern part of Akita Prefecture. It is located in the southwestern part of the Yokote Basin, and the western part of the town is in the Dewa Mountains. In addition to rice and livestock farming, the town also produces melons, tomatoes, apples, and other crops. The town's center is Numadate. In October 2005, the towns of Jumonji, Omori, Hiraka, Masuda, Yamauchi, and Taiyuu in Hiraka County were incorporated into Yokote City. 73.60 km2 . Population: 11,402 (2003). 秋田県中南部，平鹿(ひらか)郡の旧町。横手盆地南西部にあり，町の西部は出羽山地にかかる。米作，畜産を行うほか，メロン，トマト，リンゴなどを産する。中心は沼館。2005年10月平鹿郡十文字町，大森町，平鹿町，増田町，山内村，大雄村と横手市へ編入。73.60km2。１万1402人（2003）。
