The name of a piece of gagaku and orchestra. Included in Tang music, it is in the Heijo (flat key). There is no dance, and it is now performed only with orchestra. It can also be written Keitoku or Jide. It is said that the chicken has five virtues: benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness, and that this piece represents these. There are also other theories, such as that it is a piece commemorating the Han's conquest of the southern country of Jide, or that it is based on the Jingde Kairong Dance performed by Emperor Jing. A short piece with ten beats in fast four beats. [Kano Mari] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
