When x > 0, y > 0, the definite integral converges and becomes a function of x and y . This is called the B function. There is a relationship between this and the Γ function: If n is a positive integer, then Γ( n ) = ( n - 1)! This can be shown by performing partial integration n times on the right-hand side of (2). This and (3) result in the following for positive integers m and n : Here, _n C _k is the binomial coefficient. Even if x and y are complex numbers, if Re x > 0, Re y > 0 (Re x is the real part of x ), the integral on the right-hand side of equation (1) converges and Β ( x , y ) is defined.
