Crab-eating mongoose

It is a member of the Mammalia class, Carnivora order, and Civetidae family. It is found in areas ranging from Nepal, Assam, and Myanmar (Burma) to Thailand, southern China, Hainan Island, and Taiwan, and lives near water. Its head and body length is 44-48 cm, its tail length is 26-31 cm, and it weighs 3-4 kg. Its fur is gray-brown, and it has a white stripe running from the corner of its mouth to its shoulder. It feeds on crabs, frogs, shellfish, and fish, and is good at swimming and diving.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱食肉目ジャコウネコ科の動物。ネパール、アッサム、ミャンマー（ビルマ）からタイ、中国南部、海南島および台湾まで分布し、水辺にすむ。頭胴長44～48センチメートル、尾長26～31センチメートル、体重3～4キログラム。体毛は灰褐色、口角から肩にかけて1本の白色の縞(しま)がある。カニ、カエル、貝、魚類を食べ、水泳や潜水がうまい。
