A former town in Sashima District, western Ibaraki Prefecture. Occupying a plateau on the north bank of the Tone River, it is a rural area where rice and vegetable cultivation is thriving, but because it is located on National Route 4 and is close to Koga Station (Koga City) on the Tohoku Main Line, factories have moved in and the area is rapidly becoming an industrial area. In September 2005, it was incorporated into Miwa Town, Sashima District, and Koga City. 52.80 km2 . Population: 48,062 (2003). Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
