A former town in Sashima District, western Ibaraki Prefecture. Occupying a plateau on the north bank of the Tone River, it is a rural area where rice and vegetable cultivation is thriving, but because it is located on National Route 4 and is close to Koga Station (Koga City) on the Tohoku Main Line, factories have moved in and the area is rapidly becoming an industrial area. 茨城県西部，猿島(さしま)郡の旧町。利根川北岸の台地を占め，米，野菜栽培の盛んな農村地帯であるが，国道４号線が通じ，東北本線古河(こが)駅（古河市）に近いため工場が進出，工業地化が著しい。2005年９月猿島郡三和町と古河市へ編入。52.80km2。４万8062人（2003）。
