Preretinal bleeding

...Pathological bleeding occurs when blood is released from trauma, intraocular foreign bodies, or from new blood vessels in association with diabetic retinopathy or retinal vein occlusion. Preretinal bleeding occurs when blood pools on the surface of the retina or causes a thin, stretched condition. The cause is the same as vitreous bleeding, but it can also be a characteristic symptom of severe anemia. Bleeding in the macula can cause vision problems, but bleeding in other areas is asymptomatic.
