Watershed - Bunsuikai

The boundary between adjacent river basins. River water is recharged from surface water and groundwater, so there is a surface watershed and a groundwater flow system watershed. In some areas, such as the plateau area on the western foot of Mount Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture, the surface watershed and the groundwater flow system watershed are completely different, and large amounts of groundwater flow into adjacent river basins. Surface watersheds generally run along ridgelines, so they are also called watershed ridges, but in flat areas and karst regions, these watersheds can be unclear.

隣り合った流域の境界線。河川水は地表水と地下水とから涵養(かんよう)されるものであるから、地表面分水界と地下水流動系の分水界とが存在する。熊本県の阿蘇山(あそさん)西麓(せいろく)の台地部のように、地表面分水界と地下水流動系の分水界がまったく異なり、大量の地下水が隣接流域へ流出している地域もある。地表面分水界は一般に稜線(りょうせん)に沿うので分水嶺(れい)ともよばれるが、平地部やカルスト地域ではこの分水界がはっきりしないことがある。
