The three sisters, Charlotte Brontë (1816-55), Emily Brontë (1818-48), and Anne Brontë (1820-49), were all English poets and novelists. Their father, Patrick Bronte, was from Ireland, and after working his way through college, he became a clergyman, working in various churches in central Yorkshire, England, until he was appointed rector of the desolate village of Horwath in 1820.
