[Origin] 410. Constantinople Died in 485. A leading Athenian Neoplatonist (Athenian) philosopher. He studied under Olympiodorus in Alexandria and under Plato's successors Plutarch and Syrian in Athens, and later headed the Academy. He was an outstanding scholar, systematist, and commentator, and had a great influence on Dionysius the Areopagite. His works include Stoicheiōsis theologikē (Outline of the Theology), Peri tēs kata Platōna theologias (On Platonic Theology), and Opuscula (Pieces on Fate, Providence, and Evil), as well as commentaries on Plato's Timaeus, Parmenides, Gorgias, Phaidon, and the Republic, as well as commentaries on Hesiod.
