Died about 578. An Irish saint who founded a monastery in Clonfeld and evangelized the Celtic peoples. His voyage to Atlantis became a legend in the 8th century, and he became a hero in medieval tales in the 9th century as "Navigatio Brendani". The island of St. Brendan was named after him.
