André Previn

American conductor, pianist, and composer. Born in Berlin and educated in music there and in Paris, he moved to the United States in 1939. He first worked as a jazz pianist and arranger, and also composed film scores, winning four Academy Awards, including for A Bit of Love (1958). He made his conducting debut in 1963 with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and has since served as principal conductor of the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

アメリカの指揮者，ピアノ奏者，作曲家。ベルリンで生まれ同地およびパリで音楽教育を受けた後，1939年アメリカに移住。最初，ジャズのピアニストおよび編曲者として活動し，また映画音楽を手がけて，《恋の手ほどき》(1958)はじめ4度アカデミー賞を獲得している。指揮者としてのデビューは63年，セント･ルイス交響楽団においてであり，その後ヒューストン交響楽団，ロンドン交響楽団，ピッツバーグ交響楽団のそれぞれ首席指揮者を務めている。
